walchand college of engineering details

Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli (devanagari: वालचंद अभियांत्रिकी महाविद्यालय, सांगली) is situated midway between the twin cities of Sangli and Miraj, at Vishrambag, Sangli, India. The WCE campus is located on nearly 102.50 acres (415,000 m²) of land on the southern side of the Sangli – Miraj road.

Walchand College of Engineering was established in 1947 by Hon.Late Dhondumama Sathe beginning with an undergraduate course in Civil Engineering with an intake capacity of 60. Subsequently undergraduate courses in electrical and mechanical engineering, B.E.(Elec) and B.E.(Mech), with intake capacity of 60 each were introduced during the years 1950 and 1951 respectively. There are currently 390 students studying there at an undergraduate level, and 106 students at a postgraduate level.

Previously it was affiliated with Shivaji University, Kolhapur, but it is now an autonomous college offering B.Tech. degree. The college is named after Walchand Hirachand, an industrialist.
